Waste Not! Want Not! Part Five…

POLLUTION RECYCLE WASTE

Wow, some of you are real stars with your war on waste and I will say that with regards to picking up rubbish that we see we do need to be careful.

If you signed up for the monthly I value food to good to waste challenge I have reduced my waste by over 50% and going down…Mainly by planning and only buying what I need and know I am going to use and also by freezing some things which I know will spoil if I don’t use them…So in essence, I am thinking more and planning…It works!

A comment on last weeks post made me think …It came from Will Dare who has a lovely blog on music and we should all have music in our lives …Don’t you think? So please pop over and have a look at his lovely blog …Thank you, Will, and please let us know how you get on with your Sushi and that little strip of green plastic…

Hurrah that you are making changes in your daily life and also writing to raise awareness among the rest of us! I remember reading a story a while ago about the huge changes that plastic bags had brought to an island culture which for hundreds of years had used really large leaves to wrap and transport items to and from a marketplace… until some enterprising capitalist introduced plastic bags. Everyone in this culture had been accustomed to throwing their wrapping leaves by the wayside because they would soon decompose… but plastic bags don’t decompose. Rapidly this island became littered with plastic debris! Today I (somewhat ambivalently since it is indeed served in a plastic container — and right now it is a huge question mark if anyone is going to step up in the USA and start recycling all of the various plastic objects which until recently we’ve been sending to China for recycling/reuse/disposal) bought a container of vegetarian sushi for lunch. It was served with a small strip of green plastic which serves no purpose other than some sort of decoration (or nod to cultural history?) It started me thinking that grocery stores (this was a Whole Foods, now owned by Amazon) could STOP including these little pieces of green plastic trash in their packages of sushi. The next time I go there I will speak with a store manager to ask how s/he recommends I send this idea to their corporate headquarters… Obviously, this is a tiny drop in the ocean of plastic contamination on planet earth — but all of those tiny, unnecessary, purely decorative, green strips of plastic probably add up to millions per year! Thank you for blogging about this hugely important topic!!!

Comments like Will’s make my day as those of you who blog know…It makes you feel all the time you have spent agonising over a blog post is worthwhile… It also sent me hot-footing it over to the sushi counter where I purchase my sushi… I was armed with the info on the company I found online and ready with my spiel…

I didn’t need it…I was also really pleasantly surprised as a lot of plastic is used in Asia to find my tomatoes NOT in a plastic bag but in a lovely little cocoon of banana leaves…

And a brown paper bag to put them in…I will still be sending a communication but one of thanks as they are making every effort to discourage the use of plastic bags…

I know not everywhere has the luxury of utilising banana leaves but there is packaging which can be used and is eco-friendly and compostable…

It took me just minutes using Google to find out who owned the company and their contact details…So please I ask you can you do the same and send a letter or e-mail it won’t take long but could make a difference …

What else can we do?

DON’T BE FOOLED BY DATE LABELS 
Did you know that almost none of the dates stamped on our food packaging—“best by,” “use by”—indicate safety? They are a manufacturer’s best guess for when food is at peak quality, an unregulated standard that has nothing to do with safety. Next time you think a food has “expired,” use these tips to decide if it should stay or go:

What does “peak quality” mean? For the majority of products, manufacturers use their own methods to determine what dates to list on the packaging. There’s a financial incentive for manufacturers to sell their products when they taste best so that consumers come back and buy those same products again and again. Peak quality is not a standard of microbiological safety. Rather, it is a factor defined by consumer taste testing, lab tests for shelf life and product turnover rates.

My youngest son was a prime example he drove me mad…Literally, on the stroke of midnight, he would go through the fridge and chuck anything in the bin that had that days date on it…Come on we all know when vegetables and fruit are inedible …He was a nightmare and the laughing-stock of this friends…He was the boy who if he said I just have to do my hair …His friends would say we will meet you there…He was the boy who sat in the car on the edge of the seat holding the seat belt away from his shirt that he had lovingly ironed as I di not do it well enough…He was the boy who when he got a cab to work and he had asked for it to be there at 7.40…If it arrived at 7.35 it had to wait …If it wasn’t there at 7.40 he was on the phone…I could go on he was the epitome of the meaning of OCD…Then he came to Thailand….Phew…No more OCD and common sense reigns supreme…

Common sense is required…Any dates are a guide purely for manufacturers and stats…We have common sense, don’t we???

Leftovers…

Once a week have a leftover night…Get creative and please share with us…

Turn your leftover dinner into lunch the next day...With a little planning, you could create a week’s worth of taking it to work lunches.

Think ” Ingredients” not ” Leftovers”

Leftover Pasta or cooked vegetables make a Frittata.eggs garlic onions potato

Ingredients:
4 eggs
1 tbsp oil
3 small cold potatoes  sliced
1 small onion sliced
2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup of milk
Few mushrooms sliced
Few slices salami or chorizo
Grated cheddar
Let’s Cook!
Add oil to heavy bottomed pan /skillet and add cooked sliced potatoes cover with lid or foil and cook until golden if uncooked then cook for about 10 minutes until tender but firm.
Cook salami/ chorizo…I like mine a little crispy. Add onions and mushrooms and cook until onion softens. Add any other veg you are using I added sliced tomato but you could add anything spinach, finely sliced peppers, leftover cooked vegetables, cold sliced potatoes.
Beat eggs with milk and season well. Pour over your potatoes and vegetables and lower the heat. Add grated cheese. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the eggs are set. Turn out onto a plate and cut into portions. Serve with a mixed salad and crusty bread.
Enjoy!

Blend cooked vegetables with some tomatoes and make a sauce for pasta, Leftover rice then create some burritos with some meat and vegetables, top with sour cream and salsa…

Think soup… The steamed, roasted or grilled vegetables that you served as a side dish one night can become soup on another day. In a blender, puree the vegetables with 3 or 4 cups of vegetable or chicken broth, then warm the soup in a pot. Season to taste with salt and pepper, and finish the soup with a bit of pesto, olive oil or croutons.

There are so many ways you can use leftovers without just throwing them away you can in effect make a tasty meal out of virtually nothing.

It is when I see beaches with all that rubbish it breaks my heart I mean how can little children play on that sand?  If that is on the beach what is in the sea and poisoning the marine life?

Waste Not…Want Not! Part Four…

Waste and Pollution

 

Hi and welcome to Part Four of Waste Not, Want Not. .. The response from you guys has been awesome…I am impressed by how much some of you do…To combat waste in your own homes so give yourself a pat on the back…

My war on waste does seem to have morphed into something much bigger…I do believe we need to start with combating waste in our own homes and gardens which also saves us money so it is not a wasted exercise.

But I also read the news and see these heartbreaking pictures of starving children and beautiful marine life with fish hooks and plastic embedded in them so it is bigger than just our homes…Having lived on a paradise island for five years I saw the debris that washed up so those images are not staged they are the reality…Many people gave up their weekends to clean the beaches and that is admirable but we need to be tackling it at the source …

How can we do this? We have a voice, many of us are just as eloquent with putting pen to paper…If we bury our heads and close our ears to all this what does the future hold?

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or scholar to know that…But we do need to stand up and be counted…We need to do OUR bit…

Interestingly and sadly I read a post the other day about waste in the seas seen through the eyes of a tourist…She didn’t want to snorkel and didn’t although that was her plan as the water had a film on it and didn’t look inviting…A waste of a trip and an eye-opener…

I know many people practise waste recycling at home BUT do you do your bit when on holiday???

Just a question… I know here that bins are not at a premium but I carry my rubbish until  I find one I don’t just dump it…But I also think that fishing boats and big liners need to be responsible as much of the waste is the fishing line which causes horrific injuries to animals and I have been told that big liners dump their trash into the sea…I don’t know if that is true but I certainly think many smaller vessels do when you look at what waste is being washed up… Soda bottles, disposable cups, crisp packets etc…

Question???

If you are out and see a piece of rubbish would you pick it up and put it in the nearest bin ??? If you are on a sailboat do you throw your rubbish over the side?…

I came across this post when I was reading the other day and think this is a lovely idea and the seeds are embedded in the label around the candle it would also make a lovely gift for that special person who cares about preserving wildflowers… and no I am not on commision….lol

How is my waste disposal going in my kitchen at home …Well, my fridge is emptier because I am not buying so much which leaves me more room for my Christmas pickles so that is a bonus because in the run-up to Christmas I am always looking for space for my cooking … I now need to start on the freezers to make room…So many frozen bananas…Which means lots of banana cakes for the whole street…

Hello Carol!  I absolutely agree with the nappy issue. Myself, I was thinking about it a lot before my little boy was born… At the beginning we have chosen eco-friendly nappies which are decomposing without any additional gasses as they do not contain anything chemical, however, the price is almost twice than “normal chemical” ones. But I have chosen to help slightly to our nature. Now, our little boy starts with the potty and we are using reusable ones, which can be washed. However, there always can be done more… step by step! Thank you Vero for your comment as a mum who uses disposable nappies…I also am looking forward to reading your post on using fruit and vegetable peels…

In the meantime here are a few tips on how I use my scraps…

First and foremost vegetable broth...Banish stock cubes forever by making your own broth…They freeze well and can be frozen in portions using zip loc bags and not filling too much you can store quite flat thus saving room.

Start by placing at least one large onion, 3 carrots, and 3 stalks celery in a large stockpot. Onions, carrots, and celery are always the base of a good vegetable broth.

N.B Avoid adding starchy vegetables like potatoes that will make the broth cloudy and we want a lovely clear broth to don’t we?

Add any leftover vegetables and herbs that need to be used up, and will add flavour for example:

  • mushrooms
  • garlic
  • thyme
  • rosemary
  • bay leaves
  • green onions
  • leeks
  • bell peppers
  • fennel
  • parsley

Add the peels, stems, roots and all! Even papery onion and garlic peels add to the richness of the broth.

To 2 quarts of water add 1 tbsp of good salt and a tsp of peppercorns. Cover the pot and bring the broth to a slow rolling boil lower heat slightly and cook for an hour then strain all the vegetables from the broth…You will now have a lovely clear golden broth. It will store in the fridge for about 5 days or if you know you will not use it store in handy portions and freeze for future use.

This lovely broth can be used wherever you would use a stock cube and uses all of what you would normally throw away…Now that poses a question for me…If we can do that and produce a lovely broth from literally nothing how much do those sometimes expensive stock cubes cost to make???

Just saying? 

Or take a few bits of leftover vegetables and turn it into a tasty stir-fry like this…

Stir fried vegetables

If you look closely it is a few sugar snap peas, 2 baby corns sliced diagonally, some cauliflower florets, sliced cabbage or greens leaves, some carrot slices…Cooked with some garlic, 2 tbsp Oyster sauce, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp sesame oil and 2 tbsp water.

Firstly mix your sauce ingredients in the wok and heat with the garlic then add your vegetables, carrots first and stir fry for about a minute then cauliflower and corn ending with the quicker to cook vegetables if using mushrooms add last.

A vegetable stir-fry uses up all those odd bits ..the few peas, the odd mushroom and couple of baby corn and before you know it you have a lovely vegetable stir fry. if you have a few shrimp lurking in the freezer throw them in…So quick, simple and saves those odd bits going to waste…

Kale…love it or hate it? It is healthy and good for us…I know many of you dislike Kale…I love kale…I do not love kale in a smoothie…Well, for those of you who buy greens powders at some expense so I am told …  dehydrate those tough outer leaves that you would normally throw away and turn them into a greens powder to add to your morning smoothie or sprinkle on your salads…

A great money saver…

Just a question when I lived in the UK the kale was what we called curly Kale the kale here is like the one pictured I haven’t seen curly kale here..What kale do you get curly or straight ???

By doing all of these waste free measures who would like to work out what you are saving on your monthly/weekly shop?  ??? Any takers???

Waste Not…Want Not! Part Three…

Stop waste in the home

Good morning and welcome to Part Three of our war on food waste… I have been very heartened by the comments on the first two posts and pleased at how seriously many of you are taking this…I don’t want you to go away disheartened but enlightened we can all do something to help save our beautiful world and leave a legacy of hope for our children and grandchildren… I love hearing how you do your bit I think you are all brilliant and together we will make a difference …

Today I am looking at the 4 types of waste in the home and how I try to do my little bit. I would also love to hear what you do what you have changed…

Asia is not the leading light in reducing waste what I see here horrifies me at times BUT I am also seeing signs of change which is great news…

Organic Waste...comprises of vegetables, fruits, flowers and leaves…For the last few weeks, I have covered this and have taken steps to cut my waste and have given you some recipes I am always on the lookout for more recipes using parts of the fruits and vegetables which we would normally throw away.

Who throws away the celery leaves? I did before I lived here…Similar to parsley, celery leaves can be used in salads, smoothies, soups and stews and other dishes I have even juiced them and used as a brine for bacon as celery has natural nitrates. My favourite use is as one of my ingredients in my homemade chicken stock. Celery leaves are high in vitamin A for starters…

Pumpkins are in season and everywhere and are chock full of seeds… seeds which are packed with magnesium, zinc, copper, protein and omega-3 fats. They provide prostate health benefits to men and may help to relieve menopause symptoms for women. Pumpkin seed is delicious just toasted in the oven with a bit of olive oil and salt.

Toxic Waste... I like many people I am sure when I read this list didn’t associate all of this with toxic waste…I didn’t think and I should have done…

Old Medications, Paints, chemicals, bulbs, spray cans, fertiliser and pest control containers, batteries and shoe polish…How many of you like me have just chucked some of these in the bin???

I never used to think! Medications, paints and batteries I did recycle separately… What do I do now …I don’t buy aerosol cans anymore and haven’t for a number of years, Fertilisers and pest control I don’t buy with the exception of coils for Mosi’s and shoe polish well I don’t polish my flip-flops but never gave shoe polish a thought when I used to polish shoes and boots…

Cleaners I make or buy organic ones and refills not in plastic bottles, in fact, the cleaner I use comes in a brown paper sachet and is dissolved in water…One of the best cleaners I have used it removes stains and grease and I don’t have to wear gloves and with my skin, I always have had to up until I started to use this one. I was given it to test and was very sceptical…I mean ladies who haven’t been taken in by clever marketing and needed a gas mask and gloves and it didn’t do what it said on the tin????

Recyclable…Paper, Glass, metals, Plastics…

Much is in the news and press about plastic and the environment…We have all seen it and maybe got too used to seeing it!

Did you know? 

If  WE didn’t use plastic in our homes for a year 1 million marine lives would be saved???

Much is starting to be done in Asia and many islands are being closed due to damage to the ecosystem and that is brilliant … How can we help?

We can be aware of what plastic we buy, purchase glass bottles where possible, dispose of plastic properly… Look at what we can buy instead of plastic if we buy take out drinks take our own cup and straws…There are alternatives…

Today I am looking at straws…A small thing but one which causes untold damage to the ecosystem… When I was young we had paper straws and yes I will admit they didn’t last long so maybe not such a good idea…

We now have stainless steel straws and to save burning our lips on a hot beverage they have little caps to protect our delicate lips. My self I love bamboo straws although the glass ones are very pretty and of course we have silicon straws which as long as they are BPA FREE are an option…

Did you know??

Straws take 200 years to break down…Maybe we all should stop using plastic straws and look at alternatives… Even The Queen of England has done that!

Soiled waste…Materials soiled with blood or other bodily fluids or waste, disposable nappies ( diapers)

Who remembers with pride that lovely line full of snow-white nappies billowing in the breeze and how soft they were without using fabric softener??

Then along came disposable nappies to lighten our workload…A godsend…That has turned into a nightmare for the environment …

It takes 200- 500 years for a disposable nappy to decompose and how much methane gas they produce???

The good news is that in The Netherlands nappies are composted by using an industrialised system and there is no reason why that system could not be adopted by other countries…

Also although we cannot choose girls use fewer nappies than boys…

Waste Not, Want Not! Part Two!

Look closely can you see the holes in that child’s jumper Can you see the worry on their mum’s face a baby and two older children and herself and maybe a husband to feed…

There are probably also many other problems we could think of which this photo infers but behind the scenes…

What do I think is the solution?

I think we should start in our own communities and our own kitchens… Start small and grow big…Mum’s armies…

I have subscribers to my blog from all around the world as I am sure that most of you do so my thinking that between we could enthuse mum’s army and reach around the world we could make a difference…

Men really have made a pretty poor job over the centuries we still have wars, persecution of women and girls and it is the mums as shown in my picture who worry about the next meal or somewhere safe to sleep and clothes for their children.

 

So ladies and (men) we need to wake up, yes many of you work and are busy but sometimes we need to step up and be counted and go that extra mile it may be hard, it may upset your carefully planned rota, it may upset your family and kids…

But hey ho…Is that you in that photo?? I suspect not, I suspect you have clean water, food every mealtime for your table and your kids have decent clothes not ones with holes.

If we all looked at the waste which comes from our own kitchens we would be astonished and I hope many feel guilty when you see these photos…I do!

There but for the grace of God go I … Source unknown…Although there has been lots of speculation over the years.

My first post on waste included this link which I have signed up for basically the first task is looking at exactly what we waste in our own homes …If nothing else it opened my eyes and made me think… Think about what I waste and how I can waste less…

Also wasting less is a bonus because it saves us money... So I am not asking you to do something for nothing it could also improve your health…Double whammy then???

I already do some but not enough…

How it works? 

During the first week, you’ll track your preventable food waste to find out just how much you’re really wasting.

Over the next three weeks, we’ll email you easy tips and strategies to try as you continue to track your waste. By the end of the month, you’ll see how much food you saved.

Will you accept the challenge?

If you do …Here’s how to track your preventable waste. 

Place all your PREVENTABLE* food waste into a quart-size container (like a plastic deli or food storage container) or a quart-size zip-top bag. Once you fill a container, record it either on a paper copy of the Recording Worksheet or in your online Food Waste Log. Throw away the contents as usual, and start filling it again. Make sure you use the same size container throughout the Challenge. Keep containers in the fridge or freezer if you’re worried about odour or pests. If you come to the end of a week and the last container is partially filled, estimate the portion to the nearest quarter (ex. .25, .5, .75).
*PREVENTABLE food waste is food you bought to eat but has since spoiled or food that was prepared but was not eaten then thrown away. This does not include non-edible food waste such as banana peels, egg shells or chicken bones. Do not collect liquid waste, such as soup.

My biggest preventable food waste is herbs…I need to grow more so I can pick them fresh as some herbs keep longer when picked than others.

Tip: Storing Coriander( Cilantro). I use a tall jar with a screw lid and pop my coriander in ..No water just the coriander and it keeps fresh for a least a week I use quite a lot so never keep the same in a jar for longer but have heard it keeps for a further 3/4 days before it gets discoloured.

The coriander roots I freeze and use in curry pastes as they have a stronger flavour.

Broccoli stems... I have always used in soups but quite recently discovered that peeled and sliced they are great just as a vegetable or in a stir-fry.

Carrots I scrub instead of peeling so no waste there.

Citrus peels…Zesting is good and imparts a beautiful taste in cakes, biscuits, desserts. Peel can be dried or candied. Freeze the zest in ice-cube trays.

Dry and grind the peels to a powder and add to salt and black pepper for a lovely seasoning mix.

Add orange peel to your brown sugar and you will get no more clumping as it draws out the moisture.

Vegetable peels...Make vegetable crisps…

Watermelon Rinds…One of my best discoveries…I love them pickled…

Ingredients:

  • 4 lb of Watermelon
  • 1 chilli thinly sliced
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger finely sliced or diced
  • 2 Star Anise
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 4 tsp salt I use fresh mineral salt dried here
  • 1 cup of rice vinegar
  • 1 cup of sugar

Let’s Cook!

Using a vegetable peeler remove the outer green rind and slice the watermelon into I inch slices. Cut away all but 1/4 inch of the flesh (it is) the white part we are pickling. The red flesh keeps for smoothies or ice cream or a nice salad with feta cheese.

Then cut the rind into 1-inch pieces.

Add the chilli, ginger, star anise, salt, pepper, rice vinegar and sugar plus ½ cup of water together in a pan, bring the mixture to a rolling boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar then turn down the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the watermelon rind and bring back to a rolling boil and then again reducing the heat to a simmer for 5 mins or until the rinds are just tender. Remove the pan from the heat, and leave the liquid to cool down. You may need to weigh the watermelon down with a plate or lid, as it needs to stay submerged in the liquid until cool.

Once cooled then transfer to a container with a well-fitting lid and refrigerate for at least 12 hours before you eat…This will keep refrigerated for about 2/3 weeks if it lasts that long…lol

Enjoy with cold meats and cheese or just on its own from the container…

Carol, brilliant post! I love the challenge and I have subscribed myself as well. I am absolutely against food waste. The UK is one of the countries with the biggest food waste!!! Unbelievable… When we lived in an apartment and we shared bins downstairs I could not believe how much food people actually throw away! I barely throw away something from my kitchen as I am trying to use as much as I possibly can and I am always without leftovers. There is always way… And plastic in stores and wrapped food in it… I wish it could be reduced. I am taking now with me my own bags for vegetables, fruits where possible and even in a couple of stores they are willing to give me “unwrapped” food so I am very glad for that… I could see a massive waste reduction in our home… Thank you for sharing this! 💕

Eat Smart, Eat Healthily, Eat to live…

Eat smart eat healthily eat to live

Healthy eating should be the priority and the habit of a lifetime…No fads, no weighing every day or week and then beating your self up because you haven’t lost anything.

It is about being aware of what you are eating and knowing if what you are eating is improving your health. It is not about removing whole food groups from our diets we need a healthy well-balanced diet to be at our optimum health.

What really matters is Our well-being, Our Blood Pressure figure, Our cholesterol, Our blood sugar, Our inflammation markers.

This week my exercise has stepped up big time we have little Lily staying with us for a couple of weeks and she loves riding her bike and swimming…

 

Sunday it was a romp in the park feeding the duck, fish and birds and then realising that the boats were way over the other side… I had forgotten how much energy 5-year olds have…Grandad by this time was a little less than impressed and when we finally got to the boats opted to people watch rather than spend an hour peddling the boat.

To be fair Lily did take her turn but it was a bit too much for a 5-year-old on her own but my legs and tummy muscles got a good work out…

It was also great fun…

Today I have insisted on a day in the kitchen…Baking …That is of course after we have walked to get our fresh Coconut juice as Lily loves it as much as nanny does…When she was small to get her to try something I used to tell her that she shouldn’t eat it as she wouldn’t like it…Of course, she would then want to eat it…Whose a clever nanny??? The downside now is that she eats anything and especially what I like so it is sort of a family joke…But she loves her food and helping to cook last night she stripped the mint leaves, cut the coriander and spring onions…I did the shallots and cooked the meat we then made a Nam Doc which is one of Lily’s favourites…

Gluten Free Mu Nam Tok ( Waterfall Pork)

It is quick and easy to make and although the name glutinous rice infers it has gluten it does not… it means sticky here. The rice is gluten-free.

Ingredients:

Serves 2.

  • 150/200 gm Pork loin or chicken
  • 2 shallots sliced thinly
  • Handful coriander chopped
  • Mint a big handful, stripped from the stem
  • A tbsp of ground roasted rice( recipe below)
  • 1-3 tsp dried chilli
  • 2 cheeks of lime
  • 1-2 tbsp Fish Sauce
  • 2 spring onions finely sliced

Firstly cook pork on a griddle or BBQ until just cooked allow to rest before slicing.

Thinly slice shallots.

Mix with coriander and mint leaves. Thinly slice pork and add to dish with shallots, mint and coriander. Also, add any juice from the meat. Add fish sauce, dried chillies, roasted rice and lime juice then gently combine and TASTE… Adjust seasoning if required.  Taste!

Serve with Sticky rice and a dish of washed Thai vegetables.

The meat for this dish can also be sliced thinly and cooked in a little water which a lot of Thais do…I prefer mine griddled I think it has more taste…

N.B: HOW TO DRY ROAST THE RICE.

Heat a small pan and add a handful of glutinous rice, stir to prevent it burning until the rice has coloured slightly a nice light brown, then remove from the heat and grind in pestle and mortar…Do not grind to a powder it needs to be a little coarse as it gives taste and texture to a dish. It will keep in a sealed container for about 6 weeks.

The good news I just jumped on the scales and another 1lb mislaid…Yeah!

So all in all a good week… Healthy Eating back on track and still no biscuits…

I /We would love to hear your tales of success and how your healthy eating is going…I know some of you are experiencing flurries of that cold white stuff called snow and will want lots of warming food but as long as you are eating sensibly and not snacking which to me is the biggest killer for Healthy eating or if you are snacking then some healthy snacks and some healthy snacks are really luscious.

This is where healthy eating really comes into play…No one likes getting the flu so here is a great post on how you can give your body a fighting chance against all these nasty germs and viruses…

I feel just as passionately about waste and it saddens me when I see people living below the poverty line especially when so much food is wasted and I have taken up the challenge to monitor my food waste in my house…This was the topic of yesterdays post I gave the manufacturers a break from reporting on what they put in your food and came at them from another angle …The waste that goes into production…Tut tut…naughty manufacturers…
